Right to Drive

So Meetup guy wants to pick me up for this dinner and movie event on Friday evening.

I want to drive myself.

A) I love driving.  My ride anywhere, listening to music, is a good way for me to get in the right mindset.

B) I don't want this to feel anymore like a date than it already does.

C) I want an escape route.  :-/  Plus, I don't want the awkward moment in the car, all trapped like, at the end.

Is it wrong for me to just tell him I'll meet him there?  Our dinner spot and theater are right next to each other, same parking lot.

  1. Hmm... well it sounds to me like you've already agreed to a date on Friday night, right? I think letting him pick you up is pretty standard :-/ Maybe you could say you'll be doing something before so instead of you running home to get rid of the car you can just meet him there?

Or maybe you can offer to drive him?

I'm just like you though - love to drive and love my escape route!

    1. Hmm, I'll have to think about this. I really, really want to drive myself. Driving him sort of negates the point of it. :/ I am weird, weird and I need SPACE SPACE after a date date.

I may just opt for the "I have something beforehand, so I'll meet you there" line. I know he's trying to be nice, but if I'm doing this, I have to be comfortable in how I'm doing it.

  2. I don't think you need to give him any excuse. If you want to drive yourself, just tell him you'll meet him there. Easy-peasy! (Yes, I just said that.)

  3. Agreed. You don't need to explain why. Just say, thank you for the offer but I'd rather drive myself. End of discussion.

  4. Yep, just say you'll meet him there. No excuses. This should not be a big deal to him. Plus, I don't like people knowing where I live until I know for sure they're not a serial killer/rapist/stalker.

    1. Good point. I'm generally the same way. Hell, I'm even reticent about giving out my phone number these days, so many online dating boys abused it, LOL.
